FAQ Answers

1) Is intellect negative?

Intellect itself is a small process of the human mind but its effects are extremely negative.

What is intellect? It is the ability to deduce and reason - logic. Starting from some basic understandings we use our intellects to gain further understandings. This of course is very useful, we do not need those basic understandings for everything we can use our deductive minds to develop further understanding.

The problem is not with intellect itself but with the way we use intellect. Because intellect is externally verifiable, the processes of deduction and reason can be visibly seen and reproduced, there is no argument. Apart from the basic understandings knowledge can be agreed. But then steps in two faculties of human weakness, fear and the desire or power. Humans are afraid of what they don't understand so they are happy to concur initially that knowledge is intellectual. But this eschews huge areas of understanding from what is accepted as knowledge:-

Included in all of this eschewed area is knowledge of the mind itself. Intellectually the mind becomes filled with knowledge as a test of memory such as examinations. Academic knowledge becomes furthered by a process of deduction. To do academic research one examines a particular established theory and develops it further by deduction and collation - bringing together established connected theories. This blind approach has been further hampered by intellectual reliance on the computer. The computer does not possess the human faculties as described in the diagram above, however it is a very powerful tool for reason and collation. Academic research has now become little more than humans enhancing this computer role, and this academy has become a restricted process in attempts at human understanding.

Not only has fear developed this schism in knowledge but power as well. The bastions of academy have their own institutional ladders to success, they have their own kingpins, people in charge, people whose livelihoods are based on the prevailing status quo of accepting reason at the expense of the other human faculties. What if these human faculties became the benchmarks of success in our institutions of knowledge, how many of the established would survive in their comfortable worlds. In this way the human ego through fear and power has raised the intellect to a level far beyond its capability.

But within this intellectual process lies the seeds of its own inadequacy, what are the basic understandings that intellect deduces from? This is not considered greatly within academic circles. In maths knowledge is deduced from axioms, in much of science this is true as well. But within the intellectual world this approach makes an assumption the whole world can eventually be explained once sufficient axioms have been found and deductions have been made. But is that the case? There is another process that is needed to determine these axioms, and that is the process of insight. Without insight into the mind, for example, science is unable to begin its understanding. In philosophy much is discussed concerning mind, what it is, its properties and so on, but no agreement can be reached because there is no way of measuring the understanding. As a result western academia goes round in circles in terms of its understanding. This is pointless.

However the processes of mind can be known empirically. Through Buddhism the processes of mind have been investigated since the time of the Buddha and before. This empirical investigation through meditation has been repeated throughout the ages. By following their approaches these processes are recreated by the individuals who practice meditation. In western science if a process can be repeated under the same conditions this is recognised by science as verifiable. But this verifiable process requires the experimenters to meditate and western scientists in general do not do this so the conditions cannot be repeated. Trusting and being truthful could help this process but in the world we live in such values are not respected.

Take care with intellectuals as discussion of the limitations of this intellectual approach can produce fierce backlashes, verbal and occasionally physical, because of the very fear that is the lynchpin of their world - fear of wisdom and fear of losing power.

In summary Zandtao makes no attempt at justifying its process of personal development in terms of reasoning. Meditation, ChiGung, proper exercise and healthy eating are natural requirements for a person to develop. They are the axioms, you do not have to rationalise axioms they are the basis. The more the intellect is used in the Zandtao process the more harmful it is. The emphasis is on practice, the more Zandtao is practiced the less the need for intellect and the more the problems that intellectual ego creates are understood. As with all aspects of knowledge it is necessary to know the limitations of the knowledge gained, Zandtao can help you do this. And as you practice these basic platforms of Zandtao you learn why these are the axioms.

2) Is there financial gain in Zandtao?

If you measure personal development by the money you gain or by social position then Zandtao is not the system for you. Look elsewhere, there are plenty of schemes looking to make money from personal development by offering the earth - try one of those.

But the issue of finance cannot be dismissed so easily because all people need to live and money nowadays is required for that. Nature will provide a way. This sounds very loose and not a commitment that you want to base your life on, however it is true. If you follow the three platforms of Natural living described in Zandtao:-

then at some stage you will recognise your livelihood and follow it. However prior to making that decision you can learn that money is not the priority but personal development leading to love and compassion is. In making that decision a number of stresses are released. Firstly by being in tune with Nature and by recognising personal development is the priority, your life gains a direction. The more you follow Zandtao, similar or better, the more secure you become in the knowledge that personal development is the way forward, it is what we are here for. Secondly peer pressure disappears. Whilst there will still be pressures from bosses, the pressure to compete, to be fashionable for example, disappears because it just does not matter in terms of personal development. The pressure to see the latest movie or attend the best disco, all the pressures that we first experience in adolescence and then carry through into our adult lives disappear as we mature in our personal development.

But this does not answer the question of survival money. OK you will need less because much money is spent as a consequence of peer pressure, but you still need money. It is simple. When you need money you will make the decision as to how you will work to get it. And then you will earn it. Because that money is not the priority, you will think about it in context - the context that you are here for personal development and money is a small part of the means to do that.

Do you need a fulfilling job - a job with meaning? That is your choice. But be aware that all "meaningful" jobs have been corrupted by the way our society is, the distance peoples' personal developments are from their Natural Path. If you measure success by the way society judges your worth your measurement will always fall short and you will always feel dissatisfied as society does not measure personal development.

How can you measure whether what you do is right? You will be happy, it is as simple as that; you gain happiness not money.

3) How do I cope with my diet in the workplace?

In truth altering your lifestyle to include "feeding" mind, energy and body can have implications for the workplace depending on the type of job you have. The main issue I am thinking about is career and the impositions of career. The office that occurs over drinks or in the restaurant can be impacted. Many such people especially in the hierarchy require an acceptance of their lifestyle - the excessive food and drink and the food being unhealthy. They do not like people whose lifestyle shows theirs for what it is.

There is no point in my walking away from this dilemma. In reality after a few years of Zandhao (or even less) it is likely that you will recognise the inadequacy of lifestyles in which such career impositions are applied. But in the first place you might be unwilling to make the decision. And for this I have no answer, I can only say that career-based jobs with such social interactions can never make people happy; happiness comes from being comfortable in making your own decisions. 4) Will foods taste as nice?

Easiest answer, yes, but not initially. Before diet, maybe sweet foods (cakes, sweets, coke, etc.) taste nice because they satisfy your sugar addiction. But sugar, especially white sugar, is very damaging to your health. Once sugar is not part of the diet the effect of the addiction reduces, and eventually disappears. Sweet foods gradually reduce in their attraction.

The reverse happens with veg for example. You begin to savour the tastes of vegetables once the sugar addiction goes. Simply speaking the sugar addiction masks the taste buds, and you lose the ability to savour such natural tastes. Regaining the ability to taste naturally opens a different spectrum of tastes. Foods that you then find tasty will not be seen as tasty by those with sugar addiction. Easiest answer the foods will taste as nice.

However I would suggest working towards a change in mentality to taste in food. Make healthy food your priority. Once you know what foods you want to eat, then try to determine the best way to prepare them so that they are healthy for you. Rather than looking for a taste fix, it is better for personal development that food be seen as the source of good health. This is a major change in outlook, but after a while becomes an obvious choice.

Shopping is a key to good eating. Plan your meals and shopping, and source the healthy ingredients. If you only have good food in the house then you eat healthily.

5) If you travel it is difficult to control your diet. Does it matter if you are always on diet?

You are what you eat. This is a famous saying within health circles, and is an adage that is close to the heart of Zandtao. Viewing the body as a human processor:-

andrecognising that unnatural foods contain toxins it is fairly obvious that this will have an adverse affect on the health of the body (toxins in ill-health out). Good foods produce good health - you are what you eat. As you learn more about the relationship between food-intake and the health of your own body, you can begin to recognise that such a food will be beneficial in such a way. For example drinking ginger tea because it helps with lungs and breathing, root veg help with a cold and damp condition etc. As you begin to see the relationship between foods and health such correlations become second nature especially with the help of Paul Pitchford's book.

When you travel you should choose to minimise food intake that is not on diet. But do remember this about the body, the body is very capable of eliminating a certain amount of toxins. Are we immediately ill when breathing in car fumes? Will we immediately be ill if we eat sweet foods? Illness comes from excess - chronic excess. A healthier body will be better capable of dealing with toxic intake. Travelling increases the likelihood of toxic intake but the body can cope, however it is better to minimise the amount of foods we eat that are off diet.
