Comparing Practices

Zandtao almost allowed a confusion with the different practices. There is autonomy and practice, all practices lead to autonomy – that is a commonality. So far there have been 3 practices:-

Zandtaomed autonomous practice ZAP
Zandtao Christian autonomous practice ZCAP
Zandtao Prajna autonomous practice ZPAP

Zandtaomed practice was built around Buddhadasa’s MwB, it is a practice based in the wisdom tradition and led to zandtao crossing the threshold of autonomy. Zandtaomed practice is in the wisdom tradition.

Crossing the threshold of autonomy meant the recognition of autonomy that is beyond the dogma of any religion, it fits in with Buddhadasa’s No Religion. Once zandtao had crossed the threshold of autonomy he recognised a limitation of love within the wisdom tradition, the way the tradition had been compromised by patriarchy, and he developed ZPAP - he called his threshold the Prajna threshold - for prajna-paramita. Because he significantly altered MwB to include love, both in the 2nd tetrad and as part of the 4th tetrad – as well as calling love a Dhamma comrade, he felt he had to partially distance himself from what was Buddhadasa’s infrastructure of MwB. He does not however feel he is distanced from Buddhadasa (because of his no religion) but that assertion can never be confirmed. ZPAP is a practice of equanimity and embodiment, it is an autonomous practice.

As part of east-west considerations zandtao developed a practice for Christians that is a Christian practice - ZCAP. It is meant to be a practice that fits in with the Agape tradition, and it is meant as a contribution to that tradition. It has a purpose within that tradition of focussing on the development of the earthen vessel, and encourages seekers to take responsibility for that earthen vessel by developing physical, emotional and mental well-being to enable the vessel to accept God's grace and cultivate unconditional love for God. Form where zandtao stood he felt it was indicated that there was a need to emphasise this responsibility, but is not saying that such emphasis does not exist within Christianity as he does not know.

From zandtaomed to ZPAP there was a recognition of an equanimity imbalance. As he studies the Agape tradition further, he suspects there will also be an equanimity balance concerning wisdom from ZCAP to an autonomous practice. This is what is indicated by his east-west perception.

But perhaps most significant is what arises from the 8 core components, that in all 3 practices there is autonomy (intended autonomy as there have been no seekers reaching autonomy through ZCAP) that brings out vision – deep seeing; this deep-seeing is the seer consciousness of the 8 core components of practice and it has no dogma or denomination.
