CONSCIOUSNESS - FROM AWARENESS TO PURPOSE

Addon G Ariya Sacca - 4 Noble Truths

OUTLINE

This addon takes a brief looks at a comparison between zeer-consciousness and the Ariya Sacca - the 4 Noble Truths.

"Ariya sacca is the Pali term for the Four Noble Truths, a foundational teaching in Buddhism that outlines the reality of suffering and the path to its cessation. These truths are: 1. Dukkha (suffering, unsatisfactoriness), 2. Samudaya (the origin of suffering, craving), 3. Nirodha (the cessation of suffering), and 4. Magga (the path leading to the cessation of suffering, the Eightfold Path).

1. Dukkha (The Truth of Suffering): All forms of existence are marked by suffering or unsatisfactoriness. This includes pain, loss, and the general stress of being subject to aging, sickness, and death.
2. Samudaya (The Truth of the Origin of Suffering): The origin of suffering is craving, attachment, and desire. This desire fuels the cycle of rebirth and dissatisfaction.
3. Nirodha (The Truth of the Cessation of Suffering): It is possible to end suffering by eliminating craving and attachment. This state of liberation is known as Nibbana.
4. Magga (The Truth of the Path to the Cessation of Suffering): The way to end suffering is by following the Noble Eightfold Path, which includes right view, right resolve, right speech, right action, right livelihood, right effort, right mindfulness, and right concentration. zandtao finds the comparison interesting but then it is not surprising.

3 Restrictions

"All forms of existence are marked by suffering or unsatisfactoriness." - one restriction. "It is possible to end suffering by eliminating craving and attachment." - Another restriction - craving or clinging. The last restriction is attachment to ego - Ariya Sacca does not speak of ego.

Ending suffering is nibbana. zandtao does not speak of such loftiness, he does talk of freedom from restriction and has called this liberation. But in zeer-consciousness there is not complete freedom just sufficient freedom from conditioning and conformity to cross the threshold of autonomy - not nibbana as far as he knows. Buddhadasa spoke of nibbana-dhatu - glimpses of nibbana, autonomy is sufficient glimpses collected as autonomy.

In Ariya Sacca there is no term consciousness - zandtao suggests there is connection between consciousness and Buddhadasa's use of Dhamma in the 4th tetrad. Through his practice zandtao talks of graces - love, wisdom, sila, truth and creativity and mindfulness, focus and embodiment. If we look at magga - "right view, right resolve, right speech, right action, right livelihood, right effort, right mindfulness, and right concentration", then we have mindfulness and focus (mindfulness and concentration). Sila is usually taken as "right speech, right action, right livelihood" so that is not surprising, embodiment can also be seen in these 3 Magga. Resolve and effort are covered by practice that zandtao says requires an abiding dedication.

So that leaves right view, is zeer-consciousness a right view??

Amusing comparison.
